The first of Baltray’s outstanding short holes and one that sets the tone for what follows. Commitment is everything from the tee, with a bunker short right and another to the right of the green ready to punish any hesitation. Miss left and you face a stern test to save your par.

Pro Tip

Commit to your club selection and do not let the bunkers short right pull your attention. The most common mistake here is a tentative swing that comes up short. Aim for the centre of the green and accept par gladly. Missing left leaves a very difficult up and down, so if you are going to miss, favour the right side.
